PROJETS DE COOPERATION EXISTANTS :
Un projet PHC (anciennement PAI) Orchid (Ministère des Affaires Étrangères)
(cf. http://www.egide.asso.fr/fr/programmes/pai/appels/orchid.jhtml)
intitulé "Nouvelles méthodes en géométrie algébrique et arithmétique"
a été mis en place pour les années 2007 et 2008 entre
l'Institut de Mathématiques de Jussieu (IMJ) et la
National Taiwan University (NTU) à Taipei.
Les correspondants locaux pour ce programme sont Jungkai CHEN
(jkchen@math.ntu.edu.tw) à Taipei et Vincent Maillot (vmaillot@math.jussieu.fr) à Paris.
ANNONCES IMPORTANTES :
1> Two training programs sponsored by the National Science Council of
Taiwan (NSC) have been launched for 2010:
- Summer Program in Taiwan 2010: 15 scholarships will be allocated to
French graduate students to undergo 2-month summer trainings in
Taiwanese research institutes.
- Practical Training Program 2010: 15 scholarships will be allocated to
French students enrolled in 2nd year to undergo 2 to 6 month practical
trainings in Taiwanese companies.
Deadline for application is January 15, 2010.

The Institute for Pure and Applied Mathematics (IMPA) invites
applications for a two-year post-doctoral position in any field of
mathematics, with a monthly take-home salary of R$ 6,000.00
(approximately US$3,500.00 at November, 20 2009 exchange rate).
Candidates must have completed their PhD after March 31, 2006. IMPA,
located in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, is widely recognized as one of the
leading mathematical research centers worldwide. Its main goal is the
generation of high-level mathematical research. It offers also graduate
level programs at the PhD and MSc level. Currently, its faculty includes
specialists in Real and Complex Dynamical Systems, Analysis, Algebra,
Geometry, Probability, Fluid Dynamics, Optimization, Mathematical
Economics and Computer Graphics.

Le nouvel appel international à candidatures aux mobilités pour l’année universitaire 2010/2011 vient d’être lancé. Cet appel concerne les bourses de doctorat.
Les mobilités de doctorat s’effectuent au sein du réseau des établissements membres de l’AUF. Elles conduisent les étudiants et/ou enseignants-chercheurs francophones à l’extérieur de leur pays et leur permettent de préparer une thèse de doctorat. Ces mobilités doivent :
* être utiles au développement des universités et des pays du Sud,
* faire l’objet, chaque année, de recherches menées alternativement dans le pays de l’établissement d’accueil et dans le pays de l’établissement d’origine.
* la co-tutelle ou la co-direction seront favorisées.
Le dossier de candidature doit obligatoirement et UNIQUEMENT être envoyé par COURRIER ELECTRONIQUE au bureau de l’AUF de la région dans laquelle se situe votre établissement d’origine (voir liste des bureaux à la suite du règlement) le 18 décembre 2009 (minuit, heure du bureau dont relève la candidature).
Aucune candidature ne sera prise en compte passé ce délai de rigueur.
Les résultats de la sélection par le Conseil scientifique de l’AUF seront rendus publics via le portail de l’AUF et par les bureaux régionaux.

The Mentoring African Research in Mathematics (MARM) scheme is supporting mathematics and its teaching in the countries of sub-Saharan Africa between mathematicians in the UK and African colleagues, together with their students. It focuses on cultivating longer-term mentoring relations between individual mathematicians and students.
The programme is designed to counter the mathematics "brain-drain" from sub-Saharan Africa by supporting qualified mathematics professionals in situ. Rather than simply supporting mathematics conferences and workshops in countries in which mathematicians from the UK participate, the scheme concentrates on the creation of joint research partnerships between UK mathematicians, their colleagues in sub-Saharan Africa, and doctoral students of those colleagues. Continuing professional links to a centre in the developed world, professional mentoring, and the opportunity for periodic research travel will contribute to the possibility and relative attractiveness of contributing one’s mathematical expertise at home rather than moving permanently to the developed world.
The scheme is supported by grants awarded by the Nuffield Foundation and the Leverhulme Trust jointly to the London Mathematical Society, International Mathematical Union (IMU), the International Centre for Mathematical Sciences (ICMS) and the African Mathematics Millennium Science Initiative (AMMSI). The scheme is overseen by the MARM Board.
AMMSI focuses on building infrastructure and networking in mathematics in sub-Saharan Africa. It offers postgraduate scholarships, visiting lectureships, and conference support for the benefit of advanced students and young researchers in the mathematical sciences.
The scheme has now been in operation for three years. Three rounds of proposals have been considered, and nine mentoring partnerships have been set up. New mentors are still being sought.
A meeting of mentors was held at De Morgan House in January 2008. The possibility of a further meeting next year, also involving their partners and to be held either in Africa or as a part of the ICM in Hyderabad, is currently under discussion.

Science and Technology Service, French Embassy in India is pleased to announce its “Sandwich PhD and Post-Doctoral” Scholarship Programme for year 2010. Science and Technology Service works on development of cooperation with Indian scientific organisations engaged in R&D programmes of all the disciplines.
The French Embassy in India has launched this programme in 2005 to develop and strengthen its scientific cooperation with Indian science community. This scholarship programme is intended for highly qualified Indian doctoral and postdoctoral students and offer excellent opportunity to do research of their own choice in France.
